About the EDRA
Environmental Doctoral & Research Alliance (EDRA)
The Environmental Doctoral & Research Alliance (EDRA) is an inter-university alliance of higher education institutions and a strategic research collaboration framework within the ConnectED network.Open research ecosystem
While founded by Ukrainian universities, EDRA is designed as an open research ecosystem. The Alliance welcomes collaboration with Ukrainian and international universities, research institutes, scientific centers, innovation organizations, public authorities, industry partners and other stakeholders committed to advancing environmental research, doctoral education and sustainable development.

Why the Alliance was created
EDRA was established to foster collaborative research, support joint doctoral education and advance research infrastructure development in environmental sciences, environmental technologies and sustainable development.
The Alliance brings together the scientific, educational and innovation capacities of its partners to develop highly qualified researchers, promote academic exchange and strengthen international scientific cooperation.
Operating model
How collaboration becomes visible
EDRA connects the expertise, scientific resources and research capacities of partner institutions through a collaborative model.
The Alliance supports the exchange of information on research infrastructure, laboratory facilities, analytical services, digital resources, scientific data and areas of expertise, helping researchers and doctoral candidates identify opportunities for joint work.
Launch pathway
How EDRA moved from idea to Alliance
8-12 December 2025
Representatives of participating universities discussed long-term scientific cooperation and shared research capacities during ConnectED Networking Week at HNEE, Germany.
2 June 2026
Twelve Ukrainian universities signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, officially launching EDRA and marking the Alliance's first development milestone.

Doctoral candidates at partner universities benefit from access to elective courses, training programmes, summer schools, scientific events and other educational opportunities offered across the Alliance and the ConnectED Network.
Research Infrastructure and Expertise Network
Researchers can identify relevant infrastructure, scientific resources and expertise available within partner institutions and explore opportunities for collaboration with the respective institutions and research teams.
Academic and Research Mobility
Short-term visits, internships, research exchanges and participation in joint scientific events for doctoral candidates, academic staff and researchers.
Joint Research and Scientific Publications
Formation of inter-university research teams, preparation of joint scientific publications and development of interdisciplinary research collaboration.
Collaborative Projects and Expert Activities
Preparation of grant proposals, implementation of international projects, expert assessments and the development of joint initiatives in environmental sciences, environmental technologies and sustainable development.
